Emerging industry. It also formed several subsidiaries, including iWave, Inc. for system integration software and technology development; HatchAsia, Inc. for management and technology expertise; and Pacic Gaming Investments Pty. Ltd. for game development.
Now the dominant player in the electronic gaming market with 190 e- casino sites, DFNN recently appointed an expatriate to lead the rm and create its next vertical growth. Its new President and CEO, Calvin Lim Eng Kiat, is a Malaysian national who obtained his graduate education from the National University of Singapore and the Asia Pacific Institute of Information Technology in Malaysia.
Mr. Lim is the first expat to be hired by DFNN and has an extensive experience in the software development and gaming industries. At the age of 15, he started creating his own websites and has always been fascinated with technology.
He was based for almost a decade in Taiwan, where he cofounded a software venture called Nogle, Ltd. and served as its COO. Prior to that, he was the senior development manger of London-based sports betting company, Betgenius Ltd. UK, which brought him to Manila where he set up its Asian office.
In an interview with business journalists, Mr. Lim said: “DFNN has a lot of room for expansion in the fields of blockchain technology, fintech, and ecasinos. Luck plays a minor part but it’s the team that you’ve got to give credit to for bringing the company to its top position in the industry.”
He believes the market is far from saturated and is big enough for three or four players. “It makes sense to focus on the market itself, to bring more patrons and contribute to government coffers, ” he emphasized. Unlike his previous stint with Nogle where he and his business partner started from scratch, winning the trust of DFNN’s work force and leading a highly motivated team requires dedication like no other.
“The biggest challenge is always managing people. You have to get to know your colleagues personally in order to know what motivates them. Everyone’s goals and dreams are different, therefore there isn’t a one size ts all management approach in every country. Understanding the culture is also important, ” Mr. Lim said.
Soon, DFNN’s corporate offices will be transferred to the new PSE Tower at Bonifacio Global City ( BGC) in Taguig, with backroom operations at the Udenna Center also in BGC.
